- Why was there a change of title? Possibly to further the Lost Cause ideology?
- Even though there is a clear romanticism of racism and the KKK in The Birth of a Nation I do not agree with a sentiment to censor or ban it. Even had it been reversed in its depictions towards the races I would not agree with censorship.
- The plot seems to place a heavy emphasis on showing southern whites as being oppressed or terrorized as a result of the reconstruction era, painting them as victims and not racists. (Lost Cause ideology)
- At the time of its release, there seemed to be both a sentiment of support for the ideologies depicted therein and a clear uproar about the glorification of these ideas and the manipulated representation of history. Clearly, this struggle about white supremacy v. the ideas of the constitution (i.e. – that all men are created equal under God) was persisting heavily even after the conclusion of the Civil War.
