HW 1/16

Why should I make predictions or anticipate where the text is going?

Most suggestions so far seem pretty obvious but it’s nice to ingrain them a little deeper none-the-less.

Make sure to read the text over once quickly to get the basics and then go back over a second time while annotating. (note to self)

I’m a little wary of making such strong predictions about a text to start. It makes me feel as if I’ll be blinded to other perspectives than the one I’ve predicted. It’s almost like putting blinders on and charging straight ahead.

This text is a bit reiterating concepts covered in English comp for annotating and reading critically. As I said previously, however, refreshers are useful.

***Make sure to distinguish fact, opinion, and belief when reading*** It’s easy to get lost in the train of thought of the writer. Be aware of this and pull yourself (myself) out to analyze the text deeper.

In the future: If I find a piece of reading hard to stay interested in, split up the reading into smaller sessions so I can maintain good engagement and focus on what I’m doing.

Read everything as an argument or the writer trying to persuade you of something. Use this approach to critically read texts better and without getting swept up in their opinions or beliefs without good reason.
