Joel Stein Article

  • Joel Stein is an American journalist who is deeply sarcastic and in-your-face writer. Author of, “Who runs Hollywood”, “Warriors and Wussies”, “In Defense of Elitism”. Challenging common values and views in American culture using irony.
  • He does not do the other perspectives justice to further the irony and sarcasm of his piece. He’s demonstrating that these other perspectives are not being treated fairly in the real world either. Makes his opinions known about the war in the middle east at the time.
  • He uses the signing of A-Rod to the Yankees as the focal point of his sarcasm about these points of American culture. Comparing the dominating of baseball by the Yankees to the dominating of the middle east by America.
  • The audience is the average person and it’s originally published in Time Magazine (news magazine).
